About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers can set their own schedule and work up to five days per week in K–12 school assignments. Daily positions pay $140 per day, while long-term positions pay up to $172 per day; employees are paid weekly via W-2. Kokua says applicants may receive an offer within one week of applying and can use the role as a path toward permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Teachers choose from schools across the San Antonio area and receive support from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The work includes covering lesson plans and serving as a positive role model, with other school duties as needed.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 college credit hours completed.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed for school duties.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
Include relevant experience working with students on the resume.

Responsibilities

Cover lesson plans and teach students in K–12 school assignments.
Manage a classroom of students.
Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
Serve as a positive role model and help students recognize their potential.
