About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools, creating positive classroom experiences and serving as role models who help students see what is possible. You can choose assignments and set your own schedule, working up to five days per week. Assignments may include daily or long-term teaching positions, and substitute teachers may also be asked to support lunch or recess, monitor hallways, tutor students, or proctor tests. Pay is up to $172 per day: $140 per day for daily positions and $172 per day for long-term positions. Pay is weekly and issued via W-2. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the role can provide a pathway to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Applicants are being accepted for the 2026–27 school year, and interviews can begin immediately.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
At least 48 completed college credit hours.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed for school support duties.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Responsibilities

Teach in K–12 classroom assignments, including daily and long-term positions.
Manage a classroom of students.
Provide additional school support as needed, including lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Serve as a positive role model and help foster students’ interest in learning.
