Part-time Substitute Teacher - Up to $145 daily
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers for K-12 schools across the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers set their own schedule and may work up to five days per week in assignments they choose. The role pays up to $145 per day, with rates depending on education level, and is paid weekly via W-2. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes the role as an opportunity to serve as a positive role model, support students’ learning, and potentially pursue permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools. Substitute teachers may be asked to cover lesson plans and provide other school support, including lunch or recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Applicants must have experience working with children, at least 48 college credit hours, confidence managing a classroom, and the ability to pass state and federal background checks. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- At least 48 college credit hours completed.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to provide other school support where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
- Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
