About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers in Leon Valley and the surrounding San Antonio area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers serve as positive role models in K–12 classrooms, support students’ learning, and help create a welcoming classroom experience. Assignments may be daily or long-term, with pay of $140 per day for daily positions and $172 per day for long-term positions, paid weekly via W-2. Teachers can set their own schedule and work up to five days per week, selecting assignments that interest them. The role may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua offers support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and describes the position as a potential pathway to permanent roles at high-performing K–12 schools.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
• Completion of at least 48 college credit hours.
• Confidence managing a classroom of students.
• Willingness to step in where needed, including supervision, tutoring, and proctoring duties.
• Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
• Believe that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a substitute teacher in K–12 schools across the San Antonio area.
