About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring part-time substitute teachers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work in K–12 schools and can set their own schedule, accepting assignments for up to five days per week. Daily positions pay $196 per day, while long-term positions pay $216 per day, with weekly paychecks. Employment is paid via W-2. The role may also provide a path to permanent positions at high-performing K–12 schools. Substitute teachers cover lesson plans and act as positive role models who support students’ learning and help them see what is possible. They may also assist with lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Assignments are available across the Philadelphia area, with many partner schools in North Philadelphia. Kokua provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Applicants are currently being accepted for the 2026–27 school year, and the interview process can begin immediately.

Requirements

Completed a bachelor's degree.
At least six months of experience working with students in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to assist where needed, including supervision, tutoring, hallway monitoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
Ability to commute to North Philadelphia, where many partner schools are located.
Belief that every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.

Responsibilities

Cover lesson plans in K–12 classrooms.
Manage a classroom of students.
Support students as a positive role model and contribute to their learning.
Step in where needed, including lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season.
Commute to assigned schools in the Philadelphia area, including North Philadelphia.
