About The Position

Kokua Education is hiring substitute teachers for K-12 schools in Cleveland and the surrounding Houston area for the 2026-27 school year. Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage, serve as positive role models, and help students develop a love of learning. Assignments may include daily and long-term teaching positions, and teachers can choose their schedule and work up to five days per week. The role may also involve lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and proctoring during testing season. Kokua connects professional educators with schools and provides support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The position offers a path to potential permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools. Pay is up to $144 per day, paid weekly: $129 per day for daily positions and $144 per day for long-term positions. Employment is paid via W-2. Background-check costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.

Requirements

At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
Completed at least 48 college credit hours.
Confidence managing a classroom of students.
Willingness to step in where needed for duties such as supervision, tutoring, and test proctoring.
Pass state and federal background checks.
