About The Position

Assists students and families with the funding of their education by counseling them on options (grants, loans, scholarships, work-study, student accounts), assisting with applications (FAFSA, scholarship applications, etc.), determining eligibility based on federal/state rules, managing aid packages, ensuring compliance, and providing budgeting advice, all while staying current on regulations and collaborating with other campus offices to support enrollment. Exercise independent judgment and critical decision making while following all federal, state and institutional rules and regulation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Three years of related experience in Admissions, Registration, Records, Financial Aid, or student accounts within Higher Education.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience relevant to the role may be considered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Offer one-on-one guidance to prospective and current students about financial aid, eligibility, application processes, scholarships, tuition and fees, and loan management.
  • Review documents to determine financial aid and scholarship eligibility.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor student financial aid packages (grants, loans, work-study and scholarships).
  • Participate as a team member utilizing data to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of customer service for schools, students, and alumni.
  • Effectively communicate, verbally and written, with current and prospective students, alumni, other UTMB departments and outside entities.
  • Proactively resolve customer issues and make recommendations to meet the customer's needs while displaying and understanding of the issues and how they impact the customer.
  • Must be willing to go beyond the request to craft a complete solution.
  • Knowledgeable of policies and procedures regarding state, federal and institutional requirements with the ability to articulate these to customers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Process complex financial aid changes within state, federal and institutional guidelines.
  • Participates in group decision-making and evaluation of processes.
  • Serve as liaison to the schools, ensuring quality customer service and support.
  • Communicates and coordinates processes with other leaders, the Associate Director of Admissions and Records, the Director of Admissions and Records, the Associate Vice President of Student Services and University Registrar, the Financial Aid Director, the Associate Deans, and other academic leaders and staff in the schools.
  • Validates compliance with state, federal, and institutional regulations as defined by legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Performs related duties as required.
