About The Position

The Student Assistant in the Library Access Services Department provides front desk coverage and general library support at the Nelson Poynter Memorial Library, an active partner in teaching, research, and learning at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Duties may include assisting staff with patron counts and other tasks supporting campus library operations. The position reports to the USF St. Petersburg campus Library Manager, Library Operations, Access Services.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Be enrolled in at least one credit hour at USF.

Nice To Haves

Experience providing excellent customer service, preferably in a library environment.
Experience with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to work independently after initial training.
Flexibility to adapt to new technologies, workflows, and emerging service models.
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and push up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

Provide front desk information support, answer questions about the library and campus, help patrons search the online catalog, locate and check out materials, manage study room keys and accessories, and sort and shelve library materials.
Reliably cover assigned desk shifts.
Provide excellent customer service to the USF community and library patrons in person and by telephone.
Educate users about library services and policies when appropriate.
Refer users’ questions to the appropriate department or staff.
Learn the Library of Congress and Dewey classification systems.
Re-shelve books and ensure they are in order on the shelves.
Perform other duties as assigned.
