Bunch Library seeks customer service-oriented student assistants to work in the Access Services Department. Student assistants staff the Information Desk, answer directional and basic library-related questions, assist patrons in locating and retrieving library materials, and refer research questions to research librarians. They help maintain the library collection and physical space, including pulling, shelving, and shifting books, microform, media, and bound periodicals. The role also involves learning collection-specific circulation policies, collecting and logging statistics, enforcing library policies, and referring issues to professional library staff as needed. Assistants work assigned shifts or arrange for a substitute, participate in initial and ongoing training, and complete tasks assigned by Access Services Supervisors, the Access Services Manager, and the Library Director. Applicants must be enrolled students at Belmont University. Applicants should be willing to work 10–15 hours per week, cover shifts when available, work at least one late evening until 11 p.m., and work weekends. Library or customer service experience is preferred. Preference is given to students who have completed at least one year of coursework at Belmont. All students are required to read the BU Student Employment Policy before applying; Federal Work-Study students should also read the program rules and regulations.
