Strategist
About The Position
As a Strategist on Stand Together’s Strategic Analysis team, you will help issue teams turn difficult questions into clear plans. The Strategic Analysis team develops research, insights, and standards that support Priority Initiatives, such as Transforming Education and Building Strong and Safe Communities. You will work alongside an initiative team from early strategy development through the creation of final materials. You will use research, internal knowledge, and expertise from across the organization to develop viewpoints and strategies, then communicate them in writing so staff and stakeholders can act on them. The role brings rigor to issue leaders’ most difficult questions while leaving accountability for the strategy with the issue leader. It is suited to someone who can work calmly amid ambiguity, synthesize substantial information into a clear point of view, and help other teams turn strategy into impact.
Requirements
- 4–6 years of experience in strategy, consulting, policy analysis, research, or a similar advisory role.
- Ability to turn large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information into strategic recommendations.
- Strong writing and speaking skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas simply to senior leaders.
- Curiosity, sound judgment, and ability to understand complex social and organizational challenges as a system.
- Working knowledge of the social change, policy, and political landscape, and ability to learn a new issue quickly.
- Collaborative mindset, including supporting the team that owns the strategy and knowing when to respectfully challenge it.
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
- Ability to produce polished professional materials, such as decks and documents, with strong clarity and visual quality as well as analytical rigor.
- Proven ability to drive projects independently by setting goals and milestones, staying organized across multiple threads, and communicating progress to stakeholders.
- Enthusiasm for Stand Together’s vision and principled approach to solving problems, and commitment to stewarding a culture that champions transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.

- Consulting experience, ideally embedded with a client team, or a background in policy analysis, research, or philanthropy.
Responsibilities
- Work with a Priority Initiative lead throughout strategy development, including developing a point of view and strategy, planning resources, checking performance, and preparing materials for partners and stakeholders.
- Gather and synthesize internal knowledge, external data, and expert input to ground strategy in facts.
- Apply proven frameworks, including audience engagement strategy, point-of-view development, and marginal analysis, to produce clear recommendations.
- Draft clear analytic writing that meets shared standards and incorporates lessons from other teams.
- Build trust with issue leaders and colleagues outside the reporting line, developing into a trusted thought partner.
- Help improve the standards, tools, and frameworks teams use to plan and assess their work.
