GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) is a development-focused, full-time hourly supervisory role designed to prepare an individual to manage a store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, the SMIT receives hands-on training and work assignments to learn how to operate a store, drive results, and develop and lead a team. The position is a fast track to management, with training and initiatives intended to prepare the SMIT for promotion to Store Manager. Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion. After 90 days, performance is assessed to determine eligibility for promotion, taking into account factors including performance, available openings, and willingness to accept a promotion at any location in the designated market. The SMIT helps lead, coach, and support the team in delivering exceptional customer service and guidance. Working alongside a Store Manager or District Manager, the SMIT supports daily store operations, business performance, product management, visual and operational standards, sales initiatives, customer relationships, and the tools and support the team needs to succeed. The SMIT represents GNC by sharing product knowledge and promoting its “Live Well” message, while working toward personal sales and productivity goals and helping associates realize their sales potential. The role involves opening, closing, and operating the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory counts, and deposits according to GNC procedures. SMITs may also attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization's mission and initiatives. The position requires standing or walking for up to eight hours a day, frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and repetitive hand-and-finger motions, and lifting up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally. It also involves pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in temperatures ranging from 50 to 85 degrees, especially in stock rooms. Computer use may take up to 60% of the workday. SMITs work five days and 40 hours per week. Scheduling varies by store location. Mall and strip-center SMITs must work at least two weeknights through closing, including one weekend night and one other night; strip-center SMITs also work a full Saturday shift, and mall SMITs work peak business days including Saturday and Sunday. All SMITs work at least one full Sunday per month and all major U.S. holidays when the store is open. Downtown SMITs work during the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekday lunch period and, if the store is open in the evening, one closing night per week; they are not required to work Saturdays.
