About The Position

Storable is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to provide technical leadership across products in its Marine and RV & Camping Divisions, including Storable Marine products Molo and Rentals and the RV & Camping platform Newbook. These products support the operational needs of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, boat clubs, harbors, dry-stack facilities, service yards, rental fleets, RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, and RV resorts. Their workflows include storage and site management, reservations and online bookings, rentals, guest management, point of sale, payments and billing, customer and booking records, digital waivers, service operations, housekeeping, maintenance, integrations, and reporting. This is a Staff-level individual contributor role with no direct reports. The engineer will lead technical initiatives across products and teams, define architecture and engineering standards, partner with Software Development Managers on execution and Product on priorities, and develop other engineers through mentorship, design reviews, and reusable solutions. The role is hands-on across backend engineering (Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs) and frontend engineering (React and JavaScript/TypeScript), with ownership of the full software lifecycle from design and testing through deployment, observability, and incident response. There are no dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles on the teams. Engineers own the full lifecycle of their software, and this role establishes the standards, patterns, and automation that support that model across the assigned division. Ownership includes architecture and technical design; quality strategy and automated testing; deployment and delivery; observability and reliability; and security and performance. The engineer is accountable for production behavior, not just merged code. A central part of the role is advancing AI engineering practice. The Staff engineer will build and promote agentic development workflows and internal AI tooling, and will architect, build, and evaluate LLM-powered product features using evaluation suites, quality and safety metrics, cost and latency budgets, and production monitoring. AI use is expected to be measured and critically reviewed, with human judgment applied to correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and product fit. Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in Storable’s Seattle, Washington office.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including designing, building, testing, deploying, and operating production systems.
  • Hands-on production experience in backend development with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, as well as frontend development with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Thorough hands-on React experience in production, including component architecture, hooks, state management, API integration, and automated frontend testing.
  • Hands-on experience across the full software delivery lifecycle, including technical design, automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, production deployment, monitoring, and on-call incident response.
  • Personally built and shipped at least one LLM-powered feature to real users in production, and be able to explain the technical contribution, evaluation, failures, and improvements. Experience using AI coding tools alone does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Concrete, measurable evidence that AI-driven workflows built or led multiplied individual or team output, such as reducing cycle time, expanding test coverage, automating toil, or enabling otherwise infeasible initiatives.
  • Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple products or teams and owning architecture, implementation, adoption, and measurable production outcomes.
  • Ability to establish architecture and engineering standards across teams, align stakeholders on tradeoffs, and influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Deep practical experience with system boundaries, API and data contracts, performance, scalability, security, and reliability in production systems.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous technical problems into executable plans and explain decisions through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, and async updates.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring Senior Software Development Engineers and improving engineering practices across teams.
  • Ability to critically review AI-generated work for correctness, security, maintainability, performance, and product fit, and to judge when human review is required.
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in the Seattle, WA office.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases.
  • Experience working on SaaS products serving industry-specific operational workflows.
  • Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems.
  • Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, agent workflows, or developer platforms for engineering teams.
  • Experience defining SLOs, on-call programs, or incident management practices in an organization without a dedicated SRE function.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience is equally valued.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical initiatives across Marine or RV & Camping products, working hands-on across backend systems, React frontends, integrations, and infrastructure from architecture through production.
  • Own and evolve architecture across products in the assigned division, defining system boundaries, API and data contracts, integration patterns, and documented technical tradeoffs.
  • Establish and drive adoption of engineering standards for backend and React development, automated testing, code review, security, observability, and production deployment.
  • Design and build shared platform capabilities, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code modules, test harnesses, and developer tooling.
  • Define measurable reliability, performance, scalability, and operating-cost targets; address recurring failure modes and validate improvements in production.
  • Lead investigations of complex production incidents spanning products or teams, identify systemic causes, drive durable fixes, and develop other engineers’ debugging and on-call skills.
  • Shape and execute a technical roadmap, prioritizing technical debt, modernization, and migrations based on customer impact, reliability, cost, and delivery needs, with controlled production rollouts.
  • Establish the division’s AI-engineering practice, including agentic and multi-agent workflows, shared prompts and context, guardrails, and internal AI tooling.
  • Architect, build, and evaluate LLM-powered product features, including evaluation suites, quality and safety metrics, cost and latency budgets, and production monitoring.
  • Lead technical design discussions and write design documents that explain architecture, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with Product, Software Development Managers, designers, and support teams to translate business and customer needs into technical plans.
  • Mentor engineers, including Senior Software Development Engineers and technical leads, through pairing, design and code reviews, and hands-on coaching in AI-assisted development.
  • Use and promote AI tools and agentic workflows to plan, implement, test, refactor, explore options, draft technical plans, improve testing, automate repetitive work, and teach effective AI practices.
  • Own quality strategy, deployment and delivery, observability and reliability, security, and performance across systems, including automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, on-call, incident response, and safe rollout and rollback practices.
