About The Position

Storable is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to provide technical leadership across its Marine and RV & Camping Divisions, including Storable Marine and Newbook. The role supports software used by marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, boat clubs, harbors, dry-stack facilities, service yards, rental fleets, RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, and RV resorts. The products support operational workflows such as reservations, bookings, rentals, guest and customer management, payments, billing, service operations, maintenance, integrations, and reporting. This is a staff-level individual contributor role with no direct reports. The engineer will guide architecture and engineering standards across products and teams, lead complex technical initiatives, work with Software Development Managers on execution and Product on priorities, and mentor engineers. The role is hands-on across backend systems using Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, as well as frontend systems using React and JavaScript/TypeScript. The engineer owns the full lifecycle of software, from design and automated testing through deployment, observability, and incident response. The role sets standards and builds practices and automation for teams that do not have dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles. The engineer is accountable for architecture, quality, delivery, reliability, security, performance, and production outcomes across the assigned division. They will also lead the division’s AI-engineering practices, create agentic workflows and internal AI tools, and architect, build, and evaluate LLM-powered product features. The position requires at least 10 years of software engineering experience; thorough production experience with React; backend and full-stack expertise; ownership across the software delivery lifecycle; production experience shipping an LLM-powered feature; and measurable evidence that AI-driven workflows have increased individual or team output. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field is helpful, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in the Seattle, Washington office.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of software engineering experience, including designing, building, testing, deploying, and operating production systems.
  • Hands-on production backend experience with Node.js, PHP and/or .NET, SQL, and REST APIs, as well as frontend development with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Thorough hands-on production experience with React, including component architecture, hooks, state management, API integration, and automated frontend testing.
  • Hands-on experience across the full software delivery lifecycle, including technical design, automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, production deployment, monitoring, and on-call incident response.
  • Personally built and shipped at least one LLM-powered feature to real users in production, with the ability to explain technical contributions, evaluation, failures, and improvements; AI coding-tool use alone does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Concrete, measurable evidence that AI-driven workflows built or led increased individual or team output, such as reducing cycle time, expanding test coverage, automating toil, or enabling otherwise infeasible initiatives.
  • Track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple products or teams and taking responsibility for architecture, implementation, adoption, and measurable production outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish architecture and engineering standards across teams, align stakeholders on tradeoffs, and influence decisions without direct authority.
  • Deep practical experience with system boundaries, API and data contracts, performance, scalability, security, and reliability in production systems.
  • Ability to break ambiguous technical problems into clear executable plans and communicate decisions through design documents, diagrams, tradeoff analysis, and asynchronous updates.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring Senior Software Development Engineers and improving engineering practices across teams.
  • Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States and able to work a hybrid schedule in the Seattle, Washington office.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases.
  • Experience working on SaaS products that serve industry-specific operational workflows.
  • Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems.
  • Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, agent workflows, or developer platforms for engineering teams.
  • Experience defining SLOs, on-call programs, or incident-management practices in an organization without a dedicated SRE function.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience is equally valued.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical initiatives across Marine or RV & Camping products, working across backend systems, React frontends, integrations, and infrastructure from architecture through production.
  • Own and evolve division-wide architecture by defining system boundaries, API and data contracts, integration patterns, and documented technical decisions.
  • Establish and drive adoption of standards for backend and React development, automated testing, code review, security, observability, and production deployment.
  • Design and build shared platform capabilities, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code modules, test harnesses, and developer tooling.
  • Define measurable reliability, performance, scalability, and operating-cost targets; address recurring failure modes and validate improvements in production.
  • Lead investigation of complex cross-product or cross-team production incidents, identify systemic causes, drive durable fixes, and develop engineers’ debugging and on-call skills.
  • Shape and execute a division-wide technical roadmap, prioritizing technical debt, modernization, and migrations based on customer impact, reliability, cost, and delivery needs, with controlled production rollouts.
  • Set the division’s AI-engineering practice by designing agentic and multi-agent workflows, shared prompts and context, guardrails, and internal AI tooling.
  • Architect, build, and evaluate LLM-powered product features, including evaluation suites, quality and safety metrics, cost and latency budgets, and production monitoring.
  • Lead technical design discussions and write design documents that explain architecture, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with Product, Software Development Managers, designers, and support teams to translate business and customer needs into technical plans.
  • Mentor engineers, including Senior Software Development Engineers and technical leads, through pairing, design and code reviews, and hands-on coaching in AI-assisted development.
  • Own software quality strategy, including test architecture, unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, regression coverage, and release confidence.
  • Own deployment and delivery practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environment management, feature flags, and safe rollout and rollback patterns.
  • Own observability and reliability practices, including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, SLOs, on-call practices, incident response, and blameless postmortems.
  • Own security and performance practices, including secure coding, dependency and secrets hygiene, access controls, load and performance testing, and cost-aware scaling.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows to plan, implement, test, refactor, explore solutions, strengthen tests, debug code, and automate repetitive engineering work; critically review AI output before it ships.
  • Teach engineers effective AI practices, including context management, prompting, agent configuration, and AI-assisted code review.
