About The Position

Root is seeking a Staff Product Manager to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for platforms that power its pricing advantage. This highly cross-functional role owns critical pricing capabilities, including the internal Pricing Platform System (PPS), and leads the evolution of infrastructure, tooling, and decisioning systems across Root’s pricing ecosystem. The role will help build the next generation of Root’s machine learning platform for pricing, enabling researchers to move quickly from experimentation to production. This includes work on feature pipelines and stores, reproducible model training and orchestration, model registries and versioning, automated validation, model serving, production observability, and consistency between research and production. The Product Manager will also explore how emerging LLM technology can improve data science workflows and reduce the effort and time needed to turn research into production pricing models. The position is US-based and supports working from a location that works best for the employee. Root’s headquarters are in Columbus, Ohio. The role requires travel 10% of the time for quarterly in-person team events.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product management experience, ideally in fintech, insurtech, or another data-intensive regulated environment.
  • Strong systems thinking and comfort with technical concepts such as predictive modeling, APIs, and workflow orchestration.
  • Ability to drive integration of LLMs and advanced AI capabilities into daily data science workflows, transforming raw feedback into proactive models.
  • Data-driven mindset and experience working with data scientists and analytics partners.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex concepts into simple user experiences.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Customer-centric mindset with demonstrated success improving user experiences.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • Adaptable approach to scope and responsibilities in a growing organization.
  • Collaborative work style and ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Lead a team of engineers through the full product lifecycle, from ideation to implementation and iteration.
  • Partner with Engineering, Data Science, and Actuarial to identify platform needs, prioritize investments, and define a roadmap that reduces friction from data readiness through model development, deployment, diagnostics, and monitoring.
  • Guide the development of end-to-end ML platform capabilities, including opportunities to use emerging LLM technology to automate research, modeling, validation, and deployment workflows.
  • Write clear product requirement documentation (PRDs) that align business strategy with engineering plans.
  • Cultivate a prioritized product backlog using robust product frameworks and data-driven decision making.
  • Accelerate the path from new data and model features to production deployment.
  • Improve pricing workflow speed, reliability, observability, and usability.
  • Build self-service tooling that enables faster experimentation and feature creation.
  • Reduce operational and regulatory bottlenecks across pricing and filing workflows.
  • Support Root’s nationwide expansion by adapting pricing capabilities to the regulatory and operational needs of new states.
