About The Position

Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Manager, Content Design to lead content leads and Content Designers within its global, cross-disciplinary Experience Design organization. The role is a player-coach and strategic partner: setting a high craft bar, contributing directly to high-stakes work, and shaping product direction in partnership with product, design, engineering, and ML leaders. The team creates useful, usable, and delightful customer experiences across brands, devices, and platforms, including AI-powered experiences. The Senior Manager will develop the team, establish and govern content standards for AI-powered experiences, and oversee consistent, customer-centered content strategies, patterns, and frameworks. This includes turning content guidance into testable evaluation hypotheses, reviewing content-related prompts and judges, and partnering with ML, data science, and engineering on evaluation design and human review. The role also applies human-centered design practices and qualitative and quantitative insights to connect content quality with customer outcomes, and contributes scalable practices and frameworks to the broader Content Design practice and design system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, User Experience, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of related professional experience, including formal management of content designers or UX content strategists on a UX or product design team.
  • A track record of developing teams, minimizing attrition, and building trust.
  • Advanced practitioner and coaching skills in content mapping and modeling, conversational design, information architecture, UX writing, content audits, and storytelling.
  • Hands-on AI fluency, including prototyping content strategies with AI, writing prompts and system instructions, reading model outputs and traces, and designing rubrics and evaluations.
  • Ability to influence senior product, design, engineering, and ML leaders and connect vision, strategy, and action plans through storytelling and persuasion.
  • Advanced understanding of human-centered design practices and a point of view on content’s role in the design process.
  • Ability to collaborate with leaders across practice areas, including people with different approaches and perspectives, to generate effective solutions.
  • Advanced facilitation, workshop design, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Growth mindset, optimistic outlook, and ability to lead through change.
  • Thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach to content design that meets users where they are.
  • Passion for travel and Expedia Group’s mission.
  • Portfolio demonstrating expertise and craft.

Responsibilities

  • Set the craft bar and develop content leads and Content Designers whose work spans multiple teams or programs.
  • Stay hands-on with high-stakes and ambiguous problems, including AI-built prototypes, and deliver work directly where it matters most.
  • Give specific, candid feedback, run cross-team critiques, and coach team members to use feedback and support one another.
  • Create development plans based on craft gaps and teach skills including trace reading, rubric writing, prompt and system-instruction design, and responsible AI use.
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering leaders in planning; set content direction; prioritize against business and customer outcomes; and reshape or decline work that does not serve the strategy.
  • Own content standards for AI-powered experiences across programs, including metric definitions, rubrics, severity ladders, and golden examples.
  • Translate content guidance into testable evaluation hypotheses before changes ship.
  • Govern content quality in AI development by reviewing changes to content-related prompts and judges, adding content criteria to release sign-off, and partnering on evaluation design and human review.
  • Craft and oversee consistent, customer-centered content strategies, patterns, and frameworks across teams and static and AI-generated experiences.
  • Champion the growth of content patterns and the design system.
  • Help the team apply and adapt human-centered design practices to complex product areas, using qualitative and quantitative insights to link content quality to customer outcomes.
  • Build an inclusive, innovative, candid, and trusting team; attract and select diverse talent; plan capacity across designers, reviewers, and data partners; and clarify decision rights.
  • Share domain and industry knowledge across teams and contribute scalable ways of working, such as playbooks, to the Content Design practice.
