About The Position

The Specimen Technician will perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including A-station, presort, and imaging. This role involves handling the pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, performing centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens, and ensuring all tasks are completed with accuracy and timeliness. The technician will also learn and understand various specimen types related to ordered tests and adhere to all core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures. Maintaining a neat and clean work area and communicating effectively with all levels of staff are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Ability to work in a biohazard environment practicing safety habits.
  • Availability for nightshift, weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in compliance regulations and customer demands.
  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience in a production environment.
