About The Position

The Specimen Technician will perform general support functions including A-station, presort, and imaging/microfilming. This role involves handling the pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, performing centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens, and ensuring all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The technician will also be responsible for organizing and understanding specimen types related to specific tests ordered, adhering to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures, and maintaining a neat and clean work area. Effective communication with all levels of staff is essential.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computers.
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment while practicing safety habits.
• Availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required by staffing needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive environment.
• Ability to adapt to frequent changes in compliance regulations and customer demands.
• Ability to sit for long periods.
• Ability to stand for long periods.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of laboratory testing and laboratory specimen processing.
• Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience.
• Previous experience in a production environment.
