About The Position
The Sorter safely and efficiently processes incoming recyclable materials so outbound commodities are acceptable for sale to brokers or mills. The role involves separating recoverable materials from incoming waste, placing them in the appropriate chutes, and identifying and removing unacceptable waste. Sorters also support colleagues with heavy or bulky items and communicate with equipment operators when incoming loads require special attention. Employees must follow company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in an emergency. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a recycling facility sorting recyclable materials.
Responsibilities
- Sort and segregate recoverable materials, such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper, from incoming waste.
- Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into the appropriate chute.
- Assist other sorters with heavy or bulky items as needed.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergency situations.
- Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste and remove unacceptable items as required.
- Communicate with equipment operators about special-waste loads or other loads requiring special attention.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
