About The Position

The Sorter safely and efficiently processes incoming recyclable materials so that outbound commodities are acceptable for sale to brokers or mills. The role involves separating recoverable materials from incoming waste, placing them in the appropriate chutes, and helping other sorters with heavy or bulky items as needed. Sorters follow company safety procedures, inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste, and communicate with equipment operators about special or other loads requiring attention. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience working in a recycling facility sorting recyclable materials.

Responsibilities

• Sort and segregate recoverable materials, such as aluminum, plastic, glass, and paper, from incoming waste.
• Deposit recoverable materials safely and efficiently into the appropriate chute.
• Assist other sorters with heavy or bulky items as needed.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures, including stopping the conveyor belt in emergencies.
• Inspect incoming loads for unacceptable waste and remove unacceptable items as required.
• Communicate with equipment operators about incoming special-waste loads or other loads requiring special attention.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
