About The Position

Apple’s AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) team helps IS&T develop AI-powered solutions and adopt generative AI across Apple. The team builds high-quality, scalable, resilient distributed cloud systems for data exploration, analytics, reporting, and production models, working across cloud and on-premise infrastructure and handling high data volumes. As a Data Solutions Software Engineer, you will integrate open-source software with Apple’s internal ecosystem and develop components and features from concept through release. You will design, build, test, and ship software regularly, collaborating with internal customers to understand their requirements and workflows and proposing features or ecosystem changes that improve their experience. The role involves substantial coding and designing and developing cloud applications, as well as tuning and debugging code, supporting production applications, and assisting application end users. It requires in-depth knowledge of innovative technologies and cloud data platforms, along with the ability to learn new technologies independently and contribute to multiple initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience building enterprise-level data applications on distributed systems.
  • Programming experience building high-quality software in at least one of Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience developing highly optimized SQL, procedures, and semantic processes for distributed data applications.
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing cloud-based applications that use compute services, database services, RESTful APIs, ETL, queues, and notification services.
  • Knowledge of BI concepts and implementation experience on cloud platforms with databases such as Snowflake or BigQuery.
  • Ability to independently learn new technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake.
  • Experience developing Big Data applications using Java, Spark, or Kafka.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving.
  • Cloud technology experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Streamlit, Superset, Tableau, Business Objects, or Looker.
  • Working experience generating and visualizing data insights, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Use of basic machine learning models for anomaly detection, forecasting, or generative AI.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate open-source software with Apple’s internal ecosystem.
  • Develop components and features from concept through release, including designing, building, testing, and shipping them.
  • Work with internal customers to understand requirements and workflows.
  • Propose features and ecosystem changes to streamline customers’ use of platform solutions.
  • Write code and design and develop applications on cloud platforms.
  • Tune and debug the codebase.
  • Support production applications and application end users.
