About The Position

Apple’s AI & Data Platforms (AiDP) team supports AI-powered innovation across IS&T by combining data, application development, machine learning—including generative AI—data services, and customer success. The team builds high-quality, scalable, resilient distributed cloud systems for data exploration, analytics, reporting, and production models across cloud and on-premises infrastructure. As a Data Solutions Software Engineer, you will integrate open-source software with Apple’s internal ecosystem and develop components and features from concept through release. You will design, build, test, and ship software regularly, working with internal customers to understand their requirements and workflows and proposing features and ecosystem changes that improve their experience with the platform. The role involves substantial coding and designing and developing cloud applications, as well as tuning and debugging code, supporting production applications, and assisting end users. It requires in-depth knowledge of innovative technologies and cloud data platforms, the ability to learn independently, and the capacity to contribute to multiple initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience building enterprise-level data applications on distributed systems.
  • Programming experience building high-quality software with at least one of Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Experience developing highly optimized SQL, procedures, and semantic processes for distributed data applications.
  • Hands-on experience designing and developing cloud-based applications involving compute services, database services, RESTful APIs, ETL, queues, and notification services.
  • Knowledge of BI concepts and implementation experience on cloud with databases such as Snowflake or BigQuery.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving.
  • Cloud technology experience with platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cloud data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake.
  • Experience developing Big Data applications using Java, Spark, and Kafka.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Streamlit, Superset, Tableau, Business Objects, and Looker.
  • Working experience generating and visualizing data insights, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Use of basic machine-learning models for anomaly detection, forecasting, or generative AI.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate open-source software with Apple’s internal ecosystem.
  • Drive development of components and features from concept through release, including design, building, testing, and shipping.
  • Work with internal customers to understand requirements and workflows.
  • Propose features and ecosystem changes to streamline customers’ use of platform solutions.
  • Write code and design and develop cloud applications.
  • Tune and debug the codebase.
  • Support production applications and application end users.
