About The Position

Build the foundation of Apple’s next-generation Generative AI platform, combining systems engineering, scalable backend development, and GenAI technologies such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic frameworks. Design and implement large-scale, secure, highly available systems and pipelines, and collaborate across teams to support intelligent experiences. The role includes leading efforts to build distributed systems and pipelines; designing and developing solutions using a Java technology stack; working with cross-functional teams to define requirements; implementing solutions in accordance with security guidelines; and partnering with QA to identify and fix issues. Additional responsibilities include mentoring junior developers, estimating scope and team capacity with the team manager and PM, responding to urgent executive or business requests, and maintaining system stability and reliability. The ideal candidate is a strong programmer and creative problem solver who takes ownership, communicates scope clearly, and is interested in client or systems software design and programming or server-side distributed systems development.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar degree, or equivalent experience.
At least 2 years of software engineering experience in Java or Python.
Proven ability to design scalable, highly available distributed systems capable of handling high data volumes.
Solid understanding of concurrency, multithreading, design patterns, debugging, and analytical methodologies.
Experience building, maintaining, or enhancing RESTful web services using Spring Boot and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
Understanding of REST, GraphQL, or gRPC APIs; authentication methods such as OAuth and API keys; and distributed systems.
Strong grasp of software design principles, including SOLID and DRY, and testing frameworks such as Pytest or Jest.
Ability to debug complex cross-platform issues and optimize performance.
Excellent written and oral communication on technical and non-technical topics, and ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Self-directed, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with the ability to develop design proposals and thoroughly analyze production issues.

Nice To Haves

Extensive understanding of LLMs, RAG, or agentic workflows.
Strong experience with GenAI systems, including RAG techniques such as embedding or chunking and agentic frameworks such as LangChain or AutoGPT.
Experience with RAG data ingestion pipelines, vector databases, and data platforms such as Snowflake, Spark, or Flink.
Interest or experience in client or systems software design and programming, or server-side distributed system software development.

Responsibilities
