Smart Home Consultant
About The Position
As a Smart Home Consultant on ADT’s Field Operations team, you will help residential customers design and set up smart security solutions tailored to their needs. The role combines in-home consultation and sales with hands-on installation, system activation, troubleshooting, and customer education. You will explain how security systems, IoT devices, and smart home products work together, integrate products with customers’ existing setups, and provide proactive support to build customer confidence. The position pays $17.00 per hour, with average annual earning potential of $105,000 through uncapped upsell commissions, job completion pay, quality bonuses, and referral incentives. During a three-week onboarding program, training is paid at an additional $320 per week on top of hourly pay. Training includes New Technician Training, Field Safety Training, and Peer-to-Peer Training. A company vehicle is provided for work use.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; additional licensing may be needed based on location.
- Strong customer-focused communication skills.
- Technical aptitude with smart device ecosystems and connected technologies.
- Ability to understand how multiple products interact within a home network.
- Ability to climb and lift 10 or more pounds, and work indoors and outdoors in varied conditions.
- Ability to continuously learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Deliver in-home consultations and assessments.
- Recommend smart home and security solutions based on customer goals.
- Install and activate security hardware, cameras, IoT devices, and smart home products.
- Integrate new products with the customer’s existing setup.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical questions.
- Complete customer onboarding and product education.
- Build long-term customer confidence through proactive support.
- Identify upsell opportunities that strengthen home protection.
- Advise customers on system design and setup to support their safety goals.
