About The Position

A Shift Leader at Potbelly Sandwich Shop leads shifts in accordance with Potbelly values. The role manages and develops associates to deliver outstanding product quality and customer service, build sales, and control costs. The position also includes preparing and serving food, operating the register, maintaining cleanliness and food-safety standards, and supporting smooth shift operations. Pay is $14.75–$15.25 plus digital tips; Potbelly does not guarantee tip earnings.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• Meet all state food-safety requirements and pass and obtain a Food Safety Certification. After two unsuccessful attempts to pass, applicants are no longer eligible for the Shift Leader role.
• Friendly, customer-first mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Enjoy problem-solving.
• Comfortable working in a bustling kitchen environment.
• Able to manage potential allergens, including peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, and shellfish.
• Able to stand or walk for 8–9 hours or as needed.
• Able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Illinois employees must become food-safety certified within 30 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment is preferred.
• Knife skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead team members during shifts, assign tasks efficiently, and provide feedback.
• Ensure all security procedures are followed.
• Ensure back-of-the-house procedural standards are met.
• Count drawers and follow proper daily cash-handling procedures.
• Prepare quality finished products, including sandwiches, salads, soups, cookies, and ice cream, efficiently.
• Comply with health and safety standards for food, cleanliness, and safety.
• Restock the food line, chips, and cooler.
• Clean tables, counters, floors, bathrooms, kitchen, and utensils; take out trash.
• Operate the cash register and handle, balance, and follow all cash-handling procedures.
• Effectively handle customer complaints and issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
