About The Position

Figure is an AI robotics company developing autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots for home and commercial markets, headquartered in San Jose, California. The Shift Coordinator leads the Humanoid Robot Operator team and owns shift results, including robot uptime, task throughput, and on-time completion of customer use cases. The role requires setting priorities, addressing operational problems independently when engineering support is limited, and providing the day team with a clear and accurate account of overnight activity. The coordinator is expected to investigate missed targets, correct underlying issues, and seek further improvements when targets are achieved. This is a contract-to-hire position with the goal of transitioning to full-time employment. The night shift runs from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, on a five-day workweek that includes a weekend shift and two days off. Training is provided at company headquarters for one week, Monday through Friday. The posting gives two training schedules: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM in the shift description and 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM in the training section. The role combines team leadership, operational decision-making, robot troubleshooting and hands-on operation. It also involves safety enforcement, equipment and robot maintenance, issue documentation and escalation, structured shift handoffs, operator coaching, and process improvement. The position requires standing and moving throughout an 8+ hour shift and safely handling humanoid hardware weighing up to 50 pounds. The stated US base pay rate is $40.00–$45.00 per hour; compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other compensation or benefits may depend on the role.

  • Background in robotics, automation, or a hardware startup environment.
  • Experience building or improving operational processes, standard operating procedures, or performance tracking.
  • Passion for helping scale the deployment of learning humanoid robots.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, and direct the shift operator team, including robot and station assignments, coverage, and shift priorities.
  • Own shift performance, including robot uptime, task throughput, and on-time completion of customer use cases; report results and misses at the end of each shift.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for robot failures, safety concerns, and operational blockers; triage issues and decide whether to continue, pivot, or stand down.
  • Track and document issues in Jira, escalate them to the appropriate engineering team, and maintain a high standard for ticket quality.
  • Conduct structured handoffs with the next shift's leadership.
  • Coach operators in real time, provide direct feedback, support onboarding and training, and promote accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Identify recurring failures and process gaps and drive fixes with engineering and operations leadership.
  • Enforce robot-operation safety procedures and model safe practices.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in work areas and ensure the team follows equipment and robot maintenance procedures, including bring-up and shutdown.
  • Operate robots hands-on when needed.
