About The Position

This course will help students develop the critical skills required by today's managers. Topics covered include self-awareness, managing stress and conflict, using power and influence, negotiation, goal setting, and problem-solving. These skills are important for leadership and will enable students to behave more effectively in their working and personal lives. This course includes work-integrated-learning components, and satisfies the WIL requirement of the BBA degree.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in industrial relations and human resources or organizational behaviour/industrial-organizational psychology and at least 1 course at the graduate level relevant to leadership OR a master's degree in social/personality psychology with at least 2 courses at the graduate level in organizational psychology and relevant to leadership.
  • A strong academic record.
  • Previous experience teaching this course or a similar course at the undergraduate level OR experience with activities related to teaching this course (e.g., experience being a teaching assistant, teaching some sessions of the course, experience in course development, etc.).
  • Proof of excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be available throughout the exam period as exams are scheduled centrally and individual preferences for exam times/dates cannot always be accommodated.

Nice To Haves

  • A Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior or Industrial-Organizational Psychology OR a /Social/Personality Psychology with at least 2 courses at the graduate level in leadership or organizational behaviour/organizational psychology.
  • A strong academic record along with previous experience teaching this course or a similar course at the undergraduate level with good teaching evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades, holding regular office hours and maintaining reasonable availability for student and administrative contact, supervision of T.A. assigned to course.
  • Teach experientially with role plays, games, and simulations, and cases and to conduct debriefing on these role plays by integrating theory and research in the field while doing so.
  • Conduct a work-integrated learning project as a group or individual project for students (with staff support).
