About The Position

The Department of Indigenous Studies in the College of Arts and Science and the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning invite applications for an Out-of-Scope Sessional Lecturer to teach community-based courses in Pinehouse, SK during the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 Sessions. The courses include CREE 110.3 (nehiyawetan Let Us Speak Cree), INDG 107.3 (Introduction to Canadian Indigenous Studies), and INDG 201.3 (Introduction to the Health and Well Being of Indigenous Peoples). These courses will be delivered as lectures, live in-person in Pinehouse, SK, with an expected enrollment limit of 35 students per course. The schedule will be determined in consultation with the successful applicant, generally Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with no evenings or weekends without special permission. A valid driver's license is required for any off-campus courses. Appointment periods include additional days for preparation and marking. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Indigenous Studies, or relevant and equivalent work experience (for CREE 110.3).
  • PhD or MA in Indigenous Studies or related field with demonstrated expertise in Indigenous research (for INDG 107.3).
  • PhD or MA in Indigenous Studies or equivalent with a demonstrated background in foundational historical, political, social, economic, cultural and contemporary determinants of health (for INDG 201.3).
  • Demonstrable experience in teaching and speaking Cree (for CREE 110.3).
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of indigenization and the decolonization of pedagogy.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Primary research in Indigenous Studies is an asset (for CREE 110.3).
  • Previous experience teaching Indigenous Studies preferred (for INDG 107.3 and INDG 201.3).

Responsibilities

  • Teach CREE 110.3 (E11) nehiyawetan Let Us Speak Cree during the Fall 2026 session.
  • Teach INDG 107.3 (E11) Introduction to Canadian Indigenous Studies during the Fall 2026 session.
  • Teach INDG 201.3 (E12) Introduction to the Health and Well Being of Indigenous Peoples during the Winter 2027 session.
  • Determine actual course days/times in consultation with the program.
  • Engage with Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Foster respectful, reciprocal learning environments.
  • Uplift and support Indigenous students.
