About The Position

The Department of Indigenous Studies in the College of Arts and Science, the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) in the College of Education, and the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning invite applications for an Out-of-Scope Sessional Lecturer to teach the following community-based courses during the Winter 2027 Session. The course is INDG 210.3 (E20) Indigenous Ways of Knowing, offered as a Lecture (Live in-person on White Bear First Nations) from April 1, 2027, to April 21, 2027. The course schedule is daily Monday to Thursday, with an expected enrollment limit of 35. The location is White Bear First Nations. Appointment periods include additional days for preparation and marking time. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Requirements

  • PhD or MA in Indigenous Studies or equivalent with a demonstrated background in Indigenous knowledge in the local, national, and international context.
  • Demonstrated experience (experiential knowledge) in one or more Indigenous Knowledge areas (food sovereignty, language & linguistic analyses, star knowledge, human-nonhuman animal relations, water protection, etc.).
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to engaging with Indigenous ways of knowing and to fostering respectful, reciprocal learning environments.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture as well as indigenization and the decolonization of pedagogy to uplift and support Indigenous students.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for any off campus courses.

  • Previous experience teaching Indigenous Studies preferred.
