About The Position

The Department of Indigenous Studies, the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP), and the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning are seeking an Out-of-Scope Sessional Lecturer to teach INDG 210.3 (E57) Indigenous Ways of Knowing during the Fall 2026 session. This community-based course will be delivered in-person on the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering lectures, engaging with students, and fostering a respectful, reciprocal learning environment that embraces Indigenous ways of knowing. The role requires a strong understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture, as well as indigenization and decolonization of pedagogy. Appointment periods include preparation and marking time. Courses are subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.

Requirements

  • PhD or MA in Indigenous Studies or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated background in Indigenous knowledge in the local, national, and international context.
  • Demonstrated experience (experiential knowledge) in one or more Indigenous Knowledge areas (food sovereignty, language & linguistic analyses, star knowledge, human-nonhuman animal relations, water protection, etc.).
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of indigenization and the decolonization of pedagogy.
  • A valid driver’s license.

  • Previous experience teaching Indigenous Studies.
