About The Position

The Department of Indigenous Studies in the College of Arts and Science, the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) in the College of Education, and the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching and Learning invite applications for an Out-of-Scope Sessional Lecturer to teach the following community-based courses during the Winter 2027 Session. The course is INDG 216.3 (E54) The Presence of the Past in Contemporary Indigenous Life, running from January 1, 2027, to April 30, 2027. This course will be offered as a Lecture with live in-person delivery on Moosomin First Nation. The schedule is alternating Mondays, with actual class times to be determined in consultation with the successful applicant, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. No evenings or weekends are scheduled. The expected enrollment limit is 35 students. The location is Moosomin First Nation, approximately 2 hours northwest of Saskatoon, SK. Appointment periods include additional days for preparation and marking. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Requirements

  • PhD or MA in Indigenous Studies preferred, MA in History with INDG undergraduate or graduate courses will be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in critical Indigenous Studies and historical analytical frameworks.
  • Proficiency in contemporary Indigenous issues in historical contexts.
  • Previous experience teaching Indigenous Studies preferred.
  • Commitment to engaging with Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Commitment to fostering respectful, reciprocal learning environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of indigenization and the decolonization of pedagogy to uplift and support Indigenous students.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for any off-campus courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach INDG 216.3 (E54) The Presence of the Past in Contemporary Indigenous Life.
  • Deliver the course as a Lecture (Live in-person on Moosomin First Nation).
  • Determine actual class times in consultation with the program, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on alternating Mondays.
  • Engage with Indigenous ways of knowing.
  • Foster respectful, reciprocal learning environments.
  • Prepare for and mark student work.
