About The Position

This is a sessional lecturer position for Quantum Mechanics I: Foundations (JCP321H5) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course covers basic concepts of quantum mechanics, including de Broglie waves, wave-particle duality, the Schrödinger equation, Dirac notation, potential wells and barriers, the harmonic oscillator, the rigid rotor, and applications to atoms, molecules, and solids. The position is for the Fall 2026 term, from September 1 to December 31, 2026. The delivery method is in-person synchronous. TA support is provided depending on course enrollment.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant area of Physics
  • Currency and mastery of subject area demonstrated by high-quality recent research experience (within the past four years)
  • Past teaching experience
  • Excellence in teaching a similar course
  • Documentation of teaching excellence (student surveys, letters, or other evidence)
  • Ability to present a sample lecture on a topic from the course (if requested)

Nice To Haves

  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and examinations
  • Calculations and submission of grades
  • Provide direction and supervision of TAs
  • Holding regular office hours

Benefits

  • Salary: $9,997.47, including vacation pay. Rates stipulated in the collective agreement shall prevail if they vary from this posting.
