About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer I to teach ERS111H5 • Earth, Climate, & Life. The course explores the interconnectedness of Earth's systems (ocean, atmosphere, life, planet) and how they interact. It covers the evolution of life and its impact on climate, the influence of geological processes on climate and life, ecosystem changes due to weather and climate shifts, and the impact of human species on Earth's systems, resources, and sustainability. The course is delivered in-person and synchronous, with an estimated enrollment of 150 students. TA support will be provided for practical sections and some marking.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant area of Earth Science
  • Currency and mastery of subject area demonstrated by high-quality recent research experience (within the past four years)
  • Past teaching experience
  • Excellence in teaching a similar course
  • Documentation of teaching excellence (student surveys, letters, or other evidence)
  • Ability to present a sample lecture on a topic from the course (if requested)

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and examinations
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Provide direction and supervision of TAs
  • Holding regular office hours
