Server ("Mesero/a")
About The Position
The Server provides friendly, courteous, and efficient food and beverage service to guests. The role includes taking and serving orders, describing menu items, suggesting products, and maintaining clean and properly set tables and service areas. The Server also handles payments, follows cash-handling and customer-service procedures, and supports restaurant opening, closing, and cleaning duties. The position requires regular interaction with guests and staff, attention to food and beverage quality, and compliance with alcohol-service, safety, security, and hotel policies. Staff may work varying schedules based on hotel business needs and are expected to attend scheduled training sessions and meetings. A neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance is required according to Azul Hospitality standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Must be at least 21 years of age to serve alcohol.
- Safe Server Alcohol and Food Handlers certification required.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary workplace language.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; customer relations, patience, tact, and diplomacy.
- Detail-oriented, with organizational skills and the ability to collect accurate information and help resolve conflicts.
- Basic computer and computational skills; familiarity with Windows OS, MS Office, PMS, and POS.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-direction.
- Knowledge of table and bar service and of spirits, beer, wine, and flavor profiles.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Regular attendance and ability to work varying schedules based on hotel business needs; attendance at scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
- Ability to stand and move for up to four hours, work in limited spaces, maneuver between simultaneous tasks, and reach other hotel departments in a timely manner.
- Ability to lift up to 45 pounds and push or pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 pounds.
- Ability to perform duties involving grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, hearing, and visual observation.
Nice To Haves
- One to three years of food service experience preferred.
- Micros POS experience preferred.
- Excellent leadership capability.
Responsibilities
- Greet guests in a welcoming and friendly manner.
- Take food and beverage orders and describe menu items, ingredients, and preparation methods.
- Suggest menu products to customers.
- Clear, clean, and reset tables as needed.
- Verify identification and ensure alcoholic beverages are not served to minors or intoxicated persons.
- Perform opening and closing procedures and assigned side work; keep tables and side stands stocked, tidy, and clean.
- Maintain restaurant cleanliness by disposing of waste, cleaning glassware, and wiping service and preparation areas.
- Participate in deep cleaning of the outlet.
- Operate a cash register or POS, accept cash and credit-card payments, provide accurate change, and follow company cash-handling and customer-service procedures.
- Assist guests professionally and courteously and respond to guest inquiries.
- Follow company safety and security policies and procedures.
- Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries.
- Perform other reasonable duties as requested by managers or supervisors.
