About The Position

Maven Clinic is hiring a Senior Staff Product Designer to own its virtual care and provider-facing experiences and help evolve AI-native design. The role focuses on provider tools used by clinicians and other providers during virtual appointments. The designer will identify important problems, set and own design vision across complex areas, make strategic decisions amid ambiguity, and lead high-impact initiatives that raise the bar for the team. The role calls for deep fluency with AI tools and the ability to use them to accelerate exploration and build more intelligently, while mentoring others in these practices. The designer will shape AI behaviors in high-stakes healthcare contexts, create functional prototypes, establish scalable design patterns, and partner strategically with Engineering, Product, Clinical, and Data teams. They will also develop leadership in colleagues and partners, resolve cross-functional tensions, and contribute to community and cultural initiatives. Maven Clinic is a virtual healthcare company serving women and families through employer and health-plan programs and a consumer platform offering virtual care across more than 30 specialties. The posted base salary range is $220,000–$265,000 per year, with equity and benefits. Individual compensation decisions depend on qualifications, experience, and skillset.

Requirements

  • Daily use of AI tools such as Claude, Figma AI, Cursor, or similar, with strong prompting and synthesis skills, and ability to help others develop these skills.
  • Ability to turn ideas into working prototypes using AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Experience shipping code to production and ability to discuss backend architecture, model behavior, and system constraints knowledgeably.
  • Portfolio demonstrating design quality and strategic ownership, including defining success metrics, navigating ambiguity, and influencing direction.
  • Experience driving complex projects across multiple teams and building momentum without direct authority.
  • Experience designing for mobile applications and responsive web.
  • Ability to think beyond individual flows and communicate a holistic system that can scale across programs.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and complex problem-solving, including making decisions when the path is unclear.
  • Empathy for members and providers navigating emotionally intense, medically complex, and uncertain family-building experiences.
  • Interest in using AI to enable new possibilities and bringing others along in that thinking.
  • Commitment to mentoring and improving the people and team around them.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, health technology, or regulated domains.
  • Background working with machine-learning and AI teams on model-driven products.
  • Experience contributing to or building a consumer-grade design system, including Figma variables and advanced component architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end experiences for provider tooling and the virtual clinic across complex, cross-functional initiatives, from early concept through delivery.
  • Make strategic decisions about scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs to drive results across projects.
  • Define AI behavior in high-stakes contexts, including communicating uncertainty, deferring to human care, and building trust with members navigating emotionally charged decisions.
  • Build functional, high-fidelity prototypes using AI-assisted coding tools and encourage others to move beyond static mockups.
  • Develop scalable AI-powered healthcare design patterns, including confidence indicators, human-AI handoffs, and progressive disclosure, for Maven's design system.
  • Partner strategically with Engineering, Product, Clinical, and Data teams to shape model outputs into intuitive interfaces, influence problem framing, and align teams.
  • Develop leaders among design team members and non-design partners through fostering independence, delegating effectively, and promoting peer leadership.
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional tensions between design, clinical, and product perspectives.
  • Strengthen community within and outside the design team by championing company-wide cultural initiatives.

Benefits

  • Equity and benefits; individual eligibility and plan terms apply.
  • Employer-covered health, dental, and insurance plan options.
  • Access to Maven's platform and specialists, including mental health, reproductive health, family planning, and pediatrics care.

  • 16 weeks of 100% paid parental leave and a new-parent stipend for employees who have been with Maven for at least one year.
  • Annual professional development stipend and access to a personal career coach through Maven for Mavens.
  • 401(k) matching for US-based employees, with immediate vesting. Benefits listed apply to Maven Clinic Co. US-based, full-time employees only; 1099/contract providers are ineligible.
