Senior Process Integration Engineer

Samsung Electronics•Austin, TX
•Onsite

About The Position

Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s Foundry Product Engineering team serves as the product owner, connecting design with fab process flows from first silicon fab-in through final package. The team supports product satisfaction by driving new product introductions, verifying new IP, checking margins for customer sample and corner lots, and supporting timely product qualification. It implements continuously improved best-known methods to improve yield and device performance, resolves integration issues across product offerings, and manages change points to minimize implementation risk. The team also addresses customer quality feedback and claims and develops yield-learning models using wafer-sort or final-test data to identify root causes and countermeasures. The Senior Process Integration Engineer collaborates across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams to analyze test and process data, characterize process variation, identify and resolve yield and defect challenges, and improve production performance. The role supports technology qualification and mass production, develops process controls and detection measures, and presents findings to executive and customer audiences. It also supports fab initiatives involving cost reduction, throughput, quality, and work and process efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in physics, electrical engineering, or a STEM-related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Core technical and data-analysis skills to identify CIP yield-improvement activities and plans and determine root causes of abnormal events.
  • Extensive experience with data mining and statistical analysis across varied data sources.
  • Proficiency mapping wafer-sort bin and parametric data to fab electrical test (E-test/WAT) results and in-line SPC/FDC data to identify contributors to variation.
  • Skill using layout viewers and knowledge of DRC review; understanding of failure-analysis and metrology techniques for developing data-collection plans; ability to interpret eFA and pFA results.
  • Experience participating in new product introduction, advanced semiconductor technology-node bring-up, and qualification phases.
  • In-depth understanding of and hands-on experience with setting up process flows and process targets.
  • Solid foundational understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and their effects on electrical performance and device characteristics.
  • Ability to collaborate across Design, Foundry, Test, Customer, and Quality engineering teams to meet yield and qualification milestones.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to develop, modify, or maintain automation scripts and data-analysis tools using Python, C, or Java; described as highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Process, DFM, Test, Device, Module QnR, Manufacturing, and Customer teams to ensure product manufacturability.
  • Analyze EDS/ET and process-parameter data, translating wafer-sort results into actions that distinguish EDS-related anomalies from process-related yield degradation.
  • Analyze silicon data from multiple sources and model yield by characterizing process variations and key controls needed to achieve performance and yield goals.
  • Identify trends, devise mitigation strategies, and resolve yield and defect challenges using high-volume production data.
  • Monitor mass-production performance and collaborate with fab engineering to investigate systematic issues, address processing abnormalities, and drive yield toward entitlement targets.
  • Develop defense lines, improve detection and process controls, and reduce risks while maximizing production efficiency.
  • Create and present professional presentations for executive and customer meetings.
  • Support fab initiatives related to cost reduction, throughput, quality, and work and process efficiency.
  • Participate in new product introduction and technology qualification, including customer kickoff, validation of customer sample lots, evaluation of corner-wafer margins, and qualification support with fab engineering representatives.
  • Use data analysis and diagnostic techniques to identify root causes and failure modes, including interpretation of eFA and pFA results.
