About the position
Loom is seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Product Design to lead the core product experience of their video communication platform. This role requires a strong leader with a focus on both craft and people, who can drive the user-centered vision and design execution of AI-enabled video creation and viewing experiences. The Senior Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, champion user value, and solve pain points of remote and distributed work. They will also be responsible for managing a team of product designers, driving innovation, and contributing to the overall culture and design system of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the core product design team
- Define and own the user-centered strategy and design execution of new features
- Proactively identify new problems and opportunities rooted in user problems
- Collaborate with brand and marketing to ensure user value is conveyed across the user's journey
- Partner with engineering to understand technical systems and prioritize trade-offs
- Develop a deep understanding of customers and the market to drive innovation
- Work with the broader Design leadership team to shape team culture, processes, and tools
- Co-own the evolution and maturity of the Lens Design System
- Hire outstanding product designers to achieve team goals
- Advocate for the power of video and its ability to transform communication at work
- Up-level design craft and empower the design team
- Drive design thinking and user centricity across the organization
- Provide coaching and feedback to others
- Stay up-to-date with interaction design principles and usability heuristics
- Have experience in product design and managing product designers
- Communicate effectively and manage high-stakes communications
- Lead a diverse team in a rapid growth environment

Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Product Design and 4 years of experience managing Product Designers
- Outstanding portfolio with case studies showcasing typography, interaction and visual design, product sense, and idea generation
- Expertise in people development and up-leveling design craft
- Strong understanding of user-centered design strategy and execution
- Ability to proactively identify and solve user problems
- Collaboration with brand and marketing to convey user value
- Working understanding of technical systems for scoping prioritization and trade-offs
- Deep understanding of customers and market trends
- Mastery of hiring outstanding product designers
- Belief in the power of video to transform communication at work
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience leading a diverse team in a rapid growth environment
- Ability to lead with empathy and resilience
