About The Position

ChargeTronix is hiring a senior Tier III field service technician to support its modular DC fast chargers across a Southern California-based territory. This is the service team’s top technical field position and serves as the escalation point for difficult charger faults, new-site commissioning, territory reliability, and mentoring Tier I and Tier II technicians. The technician works independently with little supervision, makes on-site safety and repair decisions, and serves as a primary contact for customers and site hosts. The role reports to the Field Service Manager and has no direct reports, but acts as a technical lead for technicians in the territory. The work includes diagnosing and repairing DC fast-charger systems at component level, commissioning and testing installations, performing preventive maintenance and upgrade campaigns, managing territory uptime and spares, investigating repeat faults, and documenting findings for engineering, warranty, and field procedures. The technician provides remote support to junior technicians, trains and signs off their readiness, and communicates technical issues to customers, contractors, utilities, and inspectors. The position is full-time and exempt, with a Southern California home base and travel of 75% or more, including multi-day regional vehicle trips and periodic out-of-state air travel. The usual schedule is Monday through Friday standard hours, with a paid on-call rotation and occasional weekend or after-hours work during outages. Home most weekends. Pay is $75,000–$85,000 per year depending on experience, credentials, and platform depth; travel-day per diem and an on-call differential are additional. The role includes fieldwork outdoors in varied weather and environments, work around energized equipment, frequent driving, and periodic air travel.

  • Demonstrated component-level repair experience on DCFC hardware, including power modules, control/communication boards, contactors, and cooling systems, as well as cable and connector replacement for CCS, NACS, or CHAdeMO.
  • Experience with 480 V three-phase systems and high-voltage DC; ability to read one-lines, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Track record of training or leading other technicians, or writing procedures used by others.
  • One of the following credentials: California General Electrician Certification; journeyman/master electrician license from another state; EVITP certification; or at least 5 years of documented DCFC field service with component-level repair and California Electrician Trainee registration obtained within 90 days of hire.

  • Working knowledge of NEC, particularly Article 625, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S.
  • Proficiency with multimeters, clamp meters, insulation-resistance testers, and torque tools; ability to use an oscilloscope or data logger when needed.
  • Ability to read charger logs and communication traces, including PLC and CAN, and identify where a charge session failed.
  • Networking basics for connected chargers, including Ethernet, cellular modems, Wi-Fi, RS-485, and backend connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Comfort using ticketing and CRM tools such as Salesforce, Zendesk, or similar, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, and writing clear field reports.
  • Independent and decisive on site, with sound judgment about when to request help.

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for customers, site hosts, electrical contractors, utilities, and inspectors, explaining technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Perform job hazard analyses, lockout/tagout, arc-flash risk assessments, and PPE selection on energized jobs; exercise stop-work authority and model safe work practices.
  • Perform electrical work in accordance with NEC, including Article 625, local code, and manufacturer specifications.
