About The Position

ChargeTronix is hiring a Senior (Tier III) Field Service Technician to serve as the top technical field position on its service team. The technician is the escalation point for difficult DC fast-charger faults, commissions new sites, mentors Tier I/II technicians, and is responsible for uptime across a Southern California-based territory. The role works directly on ChargeTronix hardware and feeds structured failure data to engineering. It reports to the Field Service Manager and has no direct reports, while acting as the technical lead for Tier I/II technicians in the territory. The technician works independently with little supervision and makes on-site safety and repair decisions. Responsibilities include component-level charger repair, root-cause analysis, site commissioning and acceptance testing, preventive maintenance, reliability reporting, managing spares, training technicians, customer communication, and complete field documentation. Work includes energized electrical equipment and is performed in compliance with applicable safety codes and procedures. This is a full-time, exempt position based in Southern California, with 75% or more travel. Travel includes multi-day regional vehicle trips and periodic out-of-state air travel; the technician is generally home most weekends. The normal schedule is Monday to Friday standard hours, with a paid on-call rotation and occasional weekend or after-hours work when a site is down. The technician plans routes and workdays to serve the most sites per trip. Compensation is $75,000 to $85,000 per year depending on experience, credentials, and platform depth; per diem on travel days and an on-call differential are paid in addition to base pay.

  • Working knowledge of NEC, particularly Article 625, NFPA 70E, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 Subpart S.
  • Proficiency with multimeters, clamp meters, insulation-resistance testers, and torque tools; ability to use an oscilloscope or data logger when needed.
  • Ability to read charger logs and communication traces, including PLC and CAN, and identify where a charge session failed.
  • Networking basics for connected chargers, including Ethernet, cellular modems, Wi-Fi, RS-485, and backend connectivity troubleshooting.

  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for customers, site hosts, electrical contractors, utilities, and inspectors, explaining technical issues to non-technical people.
  • Perform job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, arc-flash risk assessment, and PPE selection for energized work; exercise stop-work authority and model safe practices.
  • Perform electrical work according to NEC, including Article 625, local code, and manufacturer specifications.
