Senior Commercial Product Manager

Zoox•Foster City, CA
•$165,000 - $221,000

About The Position

As Zoox’s first product lead for commercial systems, the Senior Commercial Product Manager owns the vision and priorities for marketplace optimization in the ride-hail business. This includes pricing, promotions, and deployment of a fixed vehicle fleet across market hours and zones, translating commercial objectives into requirements for the teams building the systems. The role covers planned pricing, dynamic pricing, promotions and incentives, and fleet supply decisions, with the goal of balancing growth and profit. This is a hands-on role responsible for writing product requirements documents, defining what each system optimizes for, specifying decision models, and validating their results. The position sits in the Commercial organization and works closely with Data Science, Fleet Operations, Finance, and product and engineering teams. The role also runs the weekly operating cadence, diagnoses performance variance, recommends changes to live commercial levers, and reports performance and roadmap status to leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in product management, technical program management, or marketplace strategy roles.
  • Significant experience with marketplace products such as ride-hail, delivery, or travel, where pricing, incentives, matching, or supply planning was the product.
  • Ability to specify optimization problems, including objectives, constraints, required data, guardrails, and validation experiments.
  • Track record of delivering roadmaps through teams that do not report directly to the role, using evidence to change priorities.
  • A quantitative degree in economics, operations research, statistics, or a similar field, and practical experience specifying or building models, running experiments, and interpreting results.
  • Clear writing and presentation skills, including producing PRDs engineers and scientists can execute and readouts that support leadership decisions.
  • Judgment to determine when a decision requires a model and when a defensible heuristic should be shipped quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Pricing or revenue management experience in a capacity-constrained business such as airlines, hotels, freight, logistics, or energy.
  • Experience taking a pricing, incentives, or fleet management system from inception to production, including operator tooling, data models, and rollback plans.
  • Graduate-level technical grounding in economics, operations research, statistics, or machine learning.
  • Hands-on experience with experiments involving interference between units, such as geographic and time splits, switchbacks, or holdouts, and with simulation when live testing is not feasible.

Responsibilities

  • Set the objectives for pricing, promotions, and fleet deployment across weekly supply planning and real-time dispatch, ensuring decisions across systems contribute to a unified commercial plan.
  • Partner with Data Science on elasticity estimation, price-effects modeling, demand and supply forecasting, supply planning, and marketplace simulation, and define what should be built.
  • Set vertical priorities by sizing expected business impact and effort with science and engineering leads, ranking initiatives, and revisiting priorities quarterly as results become available.
  • Drive delivery across teams, manage dependencies, maintain schedules, and escalate delivery risks early.
  • Design experiments and simulation studies that gate launches; define launch criteria and guardrail metrics, make launch decisions, and compare results with the estimates that justified the work.
  • Run weekly operating reviews with Commercial Operations, Fleet Operations, and Finance; diagnose variance, recommend changes to live levers, and present lever performance and roadmap status to leadership.
  • Write PRDs that define system objectives and requirements, specify models, and establish how results will be validated.
