About The Position

The Security and Communications Dispatcher operates Adventureland’s communications systems, responds to emergency and administrative calls, and dispatches public safety and public service personnel and equipment. The role directs in-park communication calls and radio traffic and coordinates emergency communications. It also includes maintaining call and security records, supporting emergency response, and performing administrative duties. The position is predominantly office-based, with some exposure to indoor and outdoor park environments.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
• At least 16 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Reliable transportation to and from scheduled shifts.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and accurately with external first responders and emergency personnel.
• Ability to operate electronic equipment such as cameras, two-way radios, walkie-talkies, and personal computers.
• Excellent observation, interviewing, listening, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to safeguard confidential park information.
• Willingness to learn and understand state and local laws related to civil and criminal procedures.
• Ability to remain alert and vigilant.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.
• Effective interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with the public and hosts and handle tense situations calmly and professionally.
• Ability to read and comprehend fine print on documents and computer screens and to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate data entry, report writing, and verbal communication.
• Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods and perform frequent seated computer and communications-equipment tasks.
• Ability to stand or walk long distances throughout the park when needed; occasionally stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above the shoulders.
• Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more.
• Ability to see details of objects more than a few feet away.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of previous dispatcher experience is highly desired.
• Spanish or other bilingual language skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate radio consoles, paging systems, and telephone consoles; receive, transmit, and relay messages and park radio traffic.
• Direct requests for security, law enforcement, and EMS assistance to the appropriate agency, prioritize calls, and dispatch personnel and equipment.
• Maintain complete logs of telephone and radio calls in the computerized dispatching system.
• Enter and retrieve information for mandated and management reports, maintain records, and test emergency communications equipment.
• Receive and direct messages, inquiries, and public information requests to the appropriate source.
• Perform administrative duties using office equipment, software, and databases.
• Follow park and company standard operating procedures and perform other duties assigned by leadership.
• Contact local law enforcement when circumstances warrant and report and dispatch security incidents and threats.
• Oversee and report on security surveillance; review security records and report trends, anomalies, and concerns.
• Communicate accurately and professionally with emergency responders during emergencies.
• Perform first aid and basic emergency medical dispatch procedures.
• Assist with developing incident reports for emergencies.
