Security Dispatcher

Central Piedmont Community College•Central Campus - Uptown/Elizabeth, NC

About The Position

The Security Dispatcher supports campus safety and security as the primary communications link among campus security personnel, emergency responders, and the college community. The position receives and processes emergency and non-emergency calls, radio traffic, alarms, emergency phone activations, and other requests; dispatches College Police, security personnel, and other authorized resources; and coordinates referrals or requests for assistance from 911 and external public safety agencies. The Dispatch Center is not a Primary or Secondary Public Safety Answering Point and coordinates requests through the appropriate jurisdictional agency. The role uses and monitors communications and security systems, maintains awareness of incidents and campus conditions, relays information to responders, makes required notifications, and creates accurate, time-stamped records. It also supports emergency operations, critical incidents, severe weather, major campus activities, continuity events, and Emergency Operations Center activations. The dispatcher must protect sensitive information, comply with College procedures and applicable records, privacy, information-security, and criminal justice information requirements, and maintain qualifications required for assigned duties. Work takes place in a continuously operating public safety communications and security operations environment. The schedule is based on operational and staffing needs and may include rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, schedule changes, alternate work locations, and extended hours during emergencies or other periods of increased need. Work may involve extended sitting, sustained computer monitoring, continuous listening through speakers or headsets, repetitive keyboard and mouse use, and exposure to urgent, sensitive, or distressing information.
