About the position
Vercel is seeking a Sales Engineer who combines their technical knowledge with value-driven sales skills. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in JavaScript, along with a broad understanding of modern web development approaches and best practices. The Sales Engineer will be responsible for answering technical questions, advising on technical best practices, identifying and uncovering current needs, exploring and validating potential solutions, and justifying the project's benefits and viability for enterprise prospects. They will work hand-in-hand with Solutions Engineering and Customer Success to ensure the technical needs of enterprise customers are surfaced, understood, and addressed in future roadmap planning.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to prospects, customers, and the sales team throughout the entire sales cycle
- Provide expertise in Vercel's platform, solutions, and services and how they can be applied to solve business needs
- Develop and present demonstrations of the Vercel solutions
- Manage and run proofs of concept, guiding measures of success and towards meaningful outcomes
- Respond to security documents, coordinating with other internal specialist teams
- Serve as an interface to Product and Engineering teams, representing Voice of the Customer
Requirements
- Strong background in JavaScript
- Broad understanding of modern web development approaches and best practices

- Passion for helping people develop an accurate mental model of how our technology works and ability to quickly build a rapport and become a trusted advisor
- Ability to weave together discussions around business benefits, strategic value, and technical efficacy with the ability to envision, create and develop custom demos
- Ability to manage a project, work to deadlines, and prioritize between competing demands
- Strong technical skills, ideally from software development experience or previous pre-sales experience
- Awareness of the broader technical ecosystems, including Headless CMS, Media, payments, eCommerce, Analytics, etc.
- Experience with web performance, Lighthouse, or Core Web Vitals
- Understanding of best practices in network architecture and security
- 3+ years of experience in a customer-facing sales or consulting role
- Bonus: Deployed Next.js applications to a production environment
- Bonus: Worked on teams self-hosting Next.js on their Kubernetes (k8s) cluster
- Bonus: Earned Cloud Solutions Architect Certifications
- Bonus: Engaged with platform security & privacy regulatory standards like PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC-2
- Bonus: Attained an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related fields
