About The Position

The Sales Associate provides customer service and sales support in a Five Below store. The role involves greeting customers, understanding and addressing their needs, sharing product knowledge, recommending merchandise, and informing shoppers about store events and promotions. Associates resolve customer concerns, communicate restocking and service needs to management, and work with teammates to support store and company goals. The position is seasonal and hourly, with a starting pay rate of $11.00. The role requires use of cash registers and other technology, and involves frequent movement throughout the sales floor and stock room. Physical duties include handling merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds, placing and retrieving items at heights of 5–10 feet, using ladders, and bending, kneeling, twisting, or stooping. Associates must be able to remain upright and stationary for 80% of the time, communicate accurately with customers and coworkers, and follow written or electronic instructions. Scheduling may include day, evening, weekend, and overnight shifts, as well as travel when required.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years old.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule that meets business needs, including day, evening, weekend, and potentially overnight shifts; travel may be required.
Comfort with or willingness to learn technology such as computers, cash registers, handheld devices, and mobile devices.
Good communication skills and ability to engage with customers.
Ability to handle customer interactions and potential issues courteously and professionally.
Ability to use basic information-gathering skills to solve problems.
Ability to learn procedural knowledge through on-the-job training.
Ability to operate cash registers, computers, handheld devices, phones, walkies, and mobile devices frequently.
Ability to frequently move merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds and place or retrieve merchandise at heights of 5–10 feet.
Ability to frequently climb and descend ladders and kneel, bend, twist, and stoop.
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information with customers, managers, and coworkers, in person and by telephone.
Ability to move frequently across the sales floor and between the sales floor and stock room.
Ability to identify and understand email and printed instructions.
Ability to remain in a stationary, upright position for 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

Greet and acknowledge customers promptly, assist them, and handle multiple customer interactions efficiently.
Assess customer needs by sharing product knowledge, answering questions, directing customers to merchandise, and making recommendations.
Use suggestive selling and stay informed about product availability.
Inform customers about store events, promotions, and special activities.
Address customer concerns and use product knowledge to offer solutions, including exchanges when appropriate.
Communicate merchandise restocking needs, service requirements, and customer feedback to management in a timely manner.
Collaborate with the team to achieve store and company objectives and contribute to a positive, productive work environment.
Operate cash registers, computers, handheld devices, phones, walkies, and mobile devices.
Move, retrieve, and put away merchandise on the sales floor and in the stock room, including using ladders and handling items up to 25 pounds.
Follow instructions about merchandise layouts, associate schedules, and standard operating procedures.
