About The Position

Performs duties to ensure accurate and timely patient meal services, including menu selection, tray assembly, and delivery of food to assigned patients. Serves as a liaison among patients, the Nursing unit, Dietitians, Food Service staff, and Food Service Management to communicate patient special requests, issues, and concerns. Works cooperatively in support of the Food and Nutrition Services Department’s established goals and objectives.

Requirements

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Ability to perform multiple tasks under time constraints and with constant interruption.
Basic knowledge of unit weights and measures and basic mathematical functions.

Nice To Haves

High school education or equivalent.
Prior experience in a patient care capacity is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Delivers assigned patient trays, including scheduled meals, snacks, floor supplies, and NOW trays; assists with positioning trays, reviewing menu selections, and opening items as needed.
Loads and pushes hot and cold food trucks to and from patient units, transports related equipment, and loads and operates cart lifts, dumbwaiters, and elevators.
Completes menu rounds for assigned patients, records menu choices promptly, adjusts menus for modified diets, reviews diet prescriptions as applicable, and explains appropriate alternatives for dietary restrictions.
Retrieves patient trays and returns them to the main kitchen; cleans and restocks carts.
Uses a computerized menu planning system to generate current diet order lists and verifies their accuracy with the unit charge nurse or designee.
Communicates patient special requests, issues, and concerns to relevant patients, nursing, dietetics, food service staff, and management.
