About The Position

The Room Service Assistant performs food service duties for patients, serving meals and snacks professionally. The role supports patient meal ordering by delivering appropriate menus, explaining how to use meal-ordering systems, and assessing patients’ ability to use those systems. The assistant also maintains food and supply quality, follows applicable food-safety guidelines, and works closely with nursing, nutrition, dietitian, and call-center staff.

Previous food-service experience and/or experience working with therapeutic diets.

Responsibilities

Serve meals and snacks to patients in a professional manner.
Rotate floor supplies and maintain supplies at PAR (Periodic Automatic Replenishment) levels.
Deliver appropriate room-service menus to patients and explain meal-ordering systems.
Assess patients’ ability to use the meal-ordering system.
Communicate effectively and regularly with nursing staff, nutrition technicians, dietitians, and call-center staff.
Use computerized diet sheets and access the patient computer system.
Retrieve completed meals from patients’ rooms and record intake and calorie-count information.
Follow Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
Take, transcribe, and process meal orders from patients and visitors by telephone, verifying that orders meet diet-order parameters.
Provide menus appropriate to patients’ diets.
Maintain excellent customer service and demonstrate effective listening and communication with coworkers, supervisors, and nursing staff.
Establish effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and nursing staff.
Evaluate and maintain quality-control standards.
