About The Position

Sanford Health is seeking a full-time Room Service Assistant to perform food-service duties for patients. The role serves meals and snacks professionally, maintains floor supplies at PAR (Periodic Automatic Replenishment) levels, delivers appropriate room-service menus, and helps patients use the meal-ordering system. The assistant assesses patients’ ability to use the system and communicates with nursing staff, nutrition technicians, dietitians, and call-center staff. On-the-job training is provided.

• Direct customer service experience is preferred.
• Previous food-service experience and/or experience working with therapeutic diets is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve meals and snacks to patients in a professional manner.
• Rotate floor supplies and maintain supplies at PAR levels.
• Deliver appropriate room-service menus and instruct patients on meal-ordering systems.
• Assess patients’ ability to use the meal-ordering system.
• Communicate effectively and promptly with nursing staff, nutrition technicians, dietitians, and call-center staff.
• Use computerized diet sheets and access the patient computer system.
• Retrieve completed meals from patients’ rooms and record intake and calorie-count information.
• Follow Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
• Obtain, transcribe, and process meal orders from patients and visitors by telephone.
• Verify meal orders meet diet-order parameters and provide appropriate menus for diets.
• Provide excellent customer service and listen and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and nursing staff.
• Establish effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and nursing staff.
• Evaluate and maintain quality-control standards.
