About The Position

The Room Service Assistant performs a variety of food service duties for patients, including serving meals and snacks professionally, maintaining floor supplies, and supporting patients with meal ordering. The role provides appropriate menus, explains meal ordering systems, and assesses patients’ ability to use those systems. The assistant communicates and coordinates with nursing staff, nutrition technicians, dietitians, and call center staff. Duties also include working with computerized diet sheets and patient systems, retrieving completed meals, recording intake and calorie information, and ensuring meal orders comply with diet parameters and HACCP guidelines. The position requires a consistent focus on customer service, communication, effective working relationships, and quality control.

Previous food service experience and/or experience working with therapeutic diets.

Responsibilities

Serve meals and snacks to patients in a professional manner.
Rotate floor supplies and maintain supplies at PAR (Periodic Automatic Replenishment) levels.
Deliver appropriate room service menus and instruct patients on meal ordering systems.
Assess patients’ ability to use the meal ordering system.
Communicate effectively and promptly with nursing staff, nutrition technicians, dietitians, and call center staff.
Use computerized diet sheets and access the patient computer system.
Retrieve completed meals from patients’ rooms and record intake and calorie count information.
Maintain compliance with HACCP guidelines.
Obtain, transcribe, and process meal orders from patients and visitors by telephone, verifying orders meet diet parameters.
Provide menus appropriate to patients’ diets.
Maintain quality control standards and establish effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and nursing staff.
