About The Position

AMI is hiring a Robot Operator to support research and development of frontier world model-based AI systems. The role involves preparing precise test scenes, running and closely monitoring algorithms on robots, collecting data through teleoperation and scripted methods, reviewing and annotating recorded episodes, and maintaining safe, organized lab operations. The operator will work in-office for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions exactly.
  • Strong hand–eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to learn new physical control systems quickly.
  • Comfort with repetitive, precision-focused work and maintaining consistent quality throughout a full shift.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, especially when describing what went wrong.
  • Basic computer skills, including running programs from instructions and using spreadsheets, video review, and data-entry tools.
  • Comfort with a Linux terminal, basic Python, or running scripts.
  • Sound safety judgment, including willingness to stop a robot when something appears wrong.
  • Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with robot arms, mobile robots, or automation equipment.
  • Basic hardware troubleshooting experience involving cables, cameras, networking, or power.
  • Background in lab, manufacturing, assembly, fulfillment, or quality-control work.
  • Gaming, VR/AR, simulation, motion-capture, or other controller-based experience.
  • Data annotation, AI training operations, or structured video-review experience.
  • Comfort with a Linux terminal, basic Python, or running scripts.
  • Interest in AI and robotics research.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange objects and scenes in specified configurations so algorithm test runs are comparable.
  • Launch algorithms on robots according to written instructions and closely monitor each run.
  • Record outcomes, timings, and unusual events accurately and consistently.
  • Reset scenes and repeat tests across trials and variations.
  • Teleoperate robots through tasks such as picking, placing, sorting, stacking, opening containers, tool use, and simple assembly.
  • Run scripted or programmatic data collection in which the robot is driven by code.
  • Introduce requested variations in objects, positions, lighting, and task order while maintaining consistent technique.
  • Meet daily data-volume targets without compromising quality or safety.
  • Review recorded episodes, classify them as successful, failed, or invalid, and assign rewards.
  • Label task phases, outcomes, and failure reasons using annotation tools.
  • Write clear operator notes to explain what happened during each run.
  • Start, calibrate, inspect, reset, and shut down robots, cameras, and operator stations using documented procedures.
  • Identify unusual robot behavior, hardware faults, or software issues; stop work when something appears unsafe and report problems clearly.
  • Keep stations, objects, and shared spaces organized and inventoried.
  • Test new tasks, hardware, and tools, and suggest improvements to procedures.
