About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management, the Manager of Risk Management is a key member of the SWHS leadership team and will be responsible for leading our hospitals Patient Safety-Risk Management Plan. This position will ensure that a framework is established and utilized to lead risk management programs that are proven to deliver tangible operational and strategic business value, supports a Just Culture, and promotes exceptional patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in related field.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in healthcare risk management.
  • Minimum 3 years leadership experience in related field required, acute care experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management processes including risk identification, risk reduction, mitigation, claims management, and contract review.
  • Knowledge of the Joint Commission Standards, Centers of Medicare Conditions of Participation, California acute care regulations, and the functions of the California Department of Public Health.
  • Ability to respond and develop plans of correction/evidence to regulatory agencies preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the Patient Safety and Risk Management Program, including annual review of goals, objectives, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Partner with senior leadership to identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks, ensuring effective corrective action plans are developed and monitored.
  • Coordinate and manage the incident reporting process, ensuring events are thoroughly investigated, documented, trended, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Analyze patient safety events, near misses, sentinel events, and adverse occurrences to identify trends and implement risk reduction strategies.
  • Prepare and present risk management and patient safety reports to various committees, including Fall Prevention, Pressure Injury Prevention, Medication Safety, and Environment of Care (EOC).
  • Serve as a key resource to leadership on risk assessment, liability exposure, patient safety, and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Investigate serious incidents and critical events, collaborating with corporate risk management and executive leadership to ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution.
  • Coordinate claims management activities, including gathering documentation, responding to legal requests, maintaining case files, and supporting depositions, mediations, and litigation proceedings.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of adverse events, critical incidents, and regulatory notifications in accordance with organizational and corporate requirements.
  • Assist with accreditation readiness, regulatory surveys, and compliance activities, serving as a liaison with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Support leaders in developing plans of correction and implementing sustainable process improvements to address identified deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with education and operational departments to develop and deliver training on patient safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
  • Promote a culture of safety by driving initiatives that reduce risk, improve quality outcomes, and enhance the patient care experience.
  • Maintain current knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and risk management best practices to support organizational compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Employee will be required to float between the two facilities (Southwest Health Rancho Springs and Inland Valley Hospitals) based on operational needs, with appropriate orientation and competency validation provided.
