About The Position

The Retail Store Team Member (also referred to as an Experience Center Team Member or ECTM) brings the Horizon Hobby RC experience to life for guests at the company’s Retail Store & Experience Center in Champaign, Illinois. This is more than a traditional retail sales position: the team member creates an inviting environment where customers can see, touch, try, learn about, and experience RC products firsthand. The role focuses on helping guests discover and understand RC, building confidence among beginners, and creating memorable experiences that encourage growth in the RC hobby. This is a part-time, on-site position. The store is generally open seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with shorter weekend hours. The standard schedule is 15–25 hours per week, and weekends are required. A permanent schedule will be determined after hire based on store needs and staffing requirements. Typical pay is $16–$18 per hour; the final offer depends on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications. The role includes occasional lifting and periodic bending, reaching, squatting, and carrying products, as well as sitting or standing for extended periods while working on a computer. Requirements

Previous customer service experience in retail, hospitality, entertainment, recreation, or sales is required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Comfort approaching and engaging with people of different ages and experience levels.
Enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
Comfort demonstrating RC vehicles and equipment.
Comfort working in a role where responsibilities can shift throughout the day based on customer traffic, events, demonstrations, and business needs.
Ability to occasionally lift supplies and materials.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer.
Ability to bend, reach, squat, and periodically lift or carry products.
Availability to work 15–25 hours per week, including weekends.

Nice To Haves

Previous RC hobby experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming, energetic, and personalized experience for every guest.
Teach first-time users basic RC operation and help them build confidence in the RC hobby.
Create excitement for upcoming activities and encourage customers to return and participate.
Demonstrate RC vehicles and products in an engaging, informative, safe, and understanding way.
Stay current on new products, promotions, featured items, and community events.
Help prepare event spaces by welcoming and registering participants, explaining activities, assisting customers, and resetting equipment.
Follow established procedures for customer transactions, including purchases and returns, and provide general technical support.
Keep merchandise faced, organized, correctly located, replenished, and easy for customers to explore.
Follow safety procedures when operating, demonstrating, charging, handling, or storing RC products and batteries.
Treat products, facilities, equipment, and customers with care and respect.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Represent Horizon Hobby’s brand and culture in a positive, professional way.
